M. Haydn: Missa Sancti Hieronimi
Shostakovich: The Execution of Stepan Razin
$17 General Admission

Dimitry Shostakovich’s shocking, dramatic work, The Execution Stepan Razin graphically depicts unimaginable horror and brutality of seventeenth-century Russia. A full orchestra and a battery of percussion leads you through the story of of this important Russian historical figure. In complete contrast stands the Hieronymus Mass by Michael Haydn. Although not as well known as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who worked just down the street, Michael Haydn was actually the favored composer during his lifetime. This mass is a masterpiece reflecting the elegance of eighteenth-century society and is the only work from this time in Salzburg written for choir, soloists, and winds!
